About Student Works Painting
Preparation is the most important part of a painting project.
Correct surface preparation:
- enhances the protection offered by the final coat of paint
- extends the protection lifetime
- over the lifetime of the building saves the home or business owner money
- where necessary full area wash, depending on the build-up, either be power-washed or hosed down
- scrape and sand all peeling paint areas
- galvanized metal primer on all bare metal surfaces
- TSP (Tri-Sodium Phosphate) or ‘green’ alternatives on dirt buildup or mildew areas
- wire brush flaking and deteriorating stucco
- stucco-patch large areas in stucco or wood filling of any holes in wood siding
- caulk small cracks in stucco
- caulk seams in fascia boards
- putty (glaze) older windows
